Välkommen new students to Sweden

This blog post is dedicated to all the new students came to Sweden. First of all, I’ll warm welcome to all students came from different countries especially from the region Asia because now you have to face the cold welcome of Swedish as they don’t welcome like we do in our countries but its normal thing as this is a culture of here.😃
Of course, you had left the comfort zone of your life and now you are starting a new chapter of the life. In the starting weeks of your study, you may be filled with excitement but also sadness and confusion. So this post will help you to minimize your confusion and will help to face problems wisely.
Accommodation
In my previous post, I have already described the accommodation issues of Sweden in details. So it is recommended to you to apply in different home agencies for the student accommodation as early as possible because the Swedish follow the queue system as first come first serve. It’s not like that you came today and apply for the room or apartment and they will allot you on the priority of the list. So be patience and keep applying in different home agencies as much as you can until you get the proper accommodation.
Some of the universities provide hostel facilities to the student but most of the universities do not. But the good thing is that in Sweden, universities are 24/7 open so you can go to the university at any time and spent time under the shelter.
Get a SIM Card
The first step of your after arrival in Sweden should be to get the SIM card because your home country SIM will not work anymore here until your country have the services of Telenor and you have activated the international roaming facility on this. Only Telenor service is available here. The SIM is free of cost. You can take it from any shop or even you can pick from the reception office of your university. Only you need to recharge this as per usage. There are several telecom companies in Sweden like COMVIQ, Telia, Tele 2 and Telenor.
Buy a Bus Pass
In starting you need to travel to different areas for some of the registration so it’s better to purchase the bus pass for travel. The bus passes are of different types like monthly pass, evening pass (only applicable after 5 P.M) and visit pass and also for different zones like zone 1, zone 2… Don’t forget to mention a student before purchasing a bus pass to get a special discount on it.
Don’t miss Orientation day of University
In Sweden, every university starts the student week where they arrange orientation for the international students on different days for the different program in the central hall of the university. Don’t miss this day as they give the overview of your study and guide you the process and rules of the university, registration of course and what to do in case of emergency.
Apply for a Personal number
If you are enrolled in the program more than two years and have the visa for more than 12 months then you need to apply for the personal number in Sweden. It’s basically your ID card in Sweden and without this, you cannot signing up your bank account. Remember that UT card is just your visa card you have to apply for the ID card after getting a personal number. The cost of this card is 400 SEK.
Get enrolled yourself in Swedish language course
Most of the universities in Sweden offer Swedish language course to the international students free of cost but with limited seats so first come first serve. Once you get your personal number then you can apply in SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) for Swedish language course.

Please read this and share your great ideas.
